So far, my March resolution isn’t going well … (sigh)
But, while we’re waiting for the Scooter Libby jury to come in with a verdict, we have the Harpy calling former Senator John Edwards a “faggot.” Awe, it was just a school-yard slur! What’s wrong with that?
Well, first of all it suggests there’s something wrong with being a homosexual. And second, by referring to Edwards with that “school-yard” slur — which is how National Review editor Rich Lowry described the Harpy’s remarks — she is insinuating Edwards is less than a man; the reference that gay men aren’t “real” men —
Let’s pose that question of manliness to former professional basketball player John Amaechi, who recently published his book Man in the Middle.
Enough of that bitch. Oh, that’s a school-yard slur, suggesting Ann Coulter is no better than a dog. Actually, I’m not suggesting it, I’m making it clear.
What else is going on these days? Well, as a veteran I’m not surprised by the story coming out of Walter Reed Medical Center. We’ve been reading about poor health care for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan almost since Bush started his war in Iraq nearly four years ago.
Since Bush has been president, I’ve seen the standard of care at the V.A. drop almost with each passing month. The staff is over-worked, the facilities no enough to handle all the new members of the V.A. system and what’s more, now veterans with service-connected disability have to pay co-pays for some of the V.A. services, even though we were promised the government would take care of us.
This, from the party — from the president — who claims to be more supportive of the troops than Democrats. Brit Hume, the dean emeritus of Fox News said of the Walter Reed scandal, “it looks terrible” for the administration. Well, Brit, it only looks bad for the president, the reality is, it is bad for the soldiers and Marines who have to live in those conditions, who have to suffer the indignity of inadequate care, who are told, “you have to pay a co-pay” for the medication they need.
And we find out, in the president’s latest budget proposal he cut funding (again) for veterans. Yeah, that’s really sticking up for the troops Mr. President. Oh, and how about this little chestnut of information: management of Walter Reed is in the hands of a private contractor: AIP, which is — I kid you effin’ not — a subsidiary of (and this is the part that would make me laugh if so many of my brother and sister veterans weren’t so horribly treated) Haliburton. They got the contract despite a five year study that said government management would be more cost-effective than outsourcing the hospital.
Not all the trouble lies with Haliburton, the deplorable conditions have existed for years, but to award the expensive contract to a company that couldn’t deliver ice to the Katrina victims?
And now we have a verdict in the Scooter Libby trial: guilty on four of five counts. Like that was a stretch. One juror, Denis Collins, spoke after the trial and posed the question: What about the vice president? What about Karl Rove and Richard Armitage? Why did the prosecution start at the bottom of the chain?
As Chris Matthews pointed out Tuesday, this case won’t be over until we get all the answers.
On a lighter note: For almost a year now two of my closest friends have been Stu and Elaine, about as nuts a couple as you’ll ever want to meet — we relate to each other perfectly. Elaine has all these gorgeous tattoos all over her lovely body — don’t ask, but I know. Anyway, Stu’s dad is Johnny Sheffield. “Who,” you ask? Johnny Sheffield! Okay, if you’re over 45 you might recognize him if I tell you a little of his history: he played “Boy” in the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies of the 1930’s and ’40’s.

This is one of my prized pictures! As kids, my siblings and I would spend our Saturday Afternoons watching Tarzan on WTMJ Channel 4 in Milwaukee. Actually, I watched because Maureen O’Sullivan was HOT! I couldn’t tell anyone back then, but dang! Tarzan and His Mate! The underwater swimming scene … Aye-yi-yi! I’ll go to Hell for the lust still in my heart … anyway, sorry for the tangent. So, I got my picture with Johnny Sheffield.
Next up: Cynthia Myers. Who is Cynthia Myers? Ask my brother Rick. He with the December 1968 issue of Playboy magazine … well, I gave it away! She and I exchanged e-mails recently and we will meet! I’m not saying when and where ’cause I want her all to myself!
Ahh … in case you’re wondering, that’s Johnny on the left and me on the right. It’s so rare to see me on the right …
