Barack Obama has been the President-Elect for five days now, even giving his first press conference, providing a view of what his administration will look like and do in its first few months at the very least.
We know the puppy going to the White House in January needs to be hypoallergenic. I never knew there were breeds that could be hypoallergenic; Greyhounds, most varieties of terriers, the Bichon Frisé, all varieties of Poodles and the lovable Schnauzer among the most prominent breeds.
President-Elect Obama would prefer a shelter dog. So many dogs and cats are left without homes, picking a shelter dog would send a strong message to people looking for pets, but with a daughter allergic to dogs, they might not be able to go that route.
Pets … I want to get a cat. Just a note, there were 113,000 searches on Google for hypoallergenic dogs. I looked up my information on Wikipedia!
Wikipedia: it’s a great reference when you find stuff that supports your philosophy and views, but the worst source of information when people use it to oppose your view.
That all the people standing on the stage behind Obama were economic and financial advisors was no surprise. The number one problem Obama will face on January 20, 2009 will be the economy. Congressional leaders are calling a lame duck session of Congress specifically for another stimulus package. Just my luck, after earning enough this year to get a stimulus check, this newest stimulus package probably won’t include a check to taxpayers. Obama doesn’t think an individual check to taxpayers is the right answer. Probably isn’t, but I want one so the Democrats just pissed me off.
For the last stimulus check, only those making $3,000.00 or more in 2007 received a check. I missed the mark by $200.00. Politicians, what punks.
The Obama-bashers have already started their engines. On a forum I frequent a topic/thread was started concerning Obama’s win Tuesday. One of those who posted a message had this to say (I’m leaving in all the typos for authenticity):
I did not vote for Obama because I do not agree with his beliefs. I do wish him well. And to blame Gov. Palin is so wrong. I hope she comes back in 2012. But would not blame her if she does not. She was treated horribly by the Democrats and the main stream/liberial media. Why McCain lost was due to the overwhelming number of blacks and Hispanics voting for Obama. Most only voting to put a black, well actually a mixed race man in the White House. They cared not one thing about his views. I am not against a black or mixed race person for president. I just do not like this one.
And President Bush is a class act and he has proved it by the way he congratulated President-elect Obama. And the unprecedented way he has started to help Obama get up to speed with everything so he can hit the ground running.
Do you really hope Sarah Palin runs for president in 2012? That grating voice, her anti-wildlife policies (she pays a bounty to people who kill wolves from aircraft among other atrocities) and her lack of basic knowledge of important issues … please, there’s a large number of Republicans mounting a campaign to keep Palin from returning to the national stage.
And frankly, it’s Republicans, members of McCain’s campaign specifically, attacking Palin, not the Democrats or the media, and the Republicans have been doing it since mid-September, far more viciously than anyone since Palin was thrust into the spotlight.
Possibly though we can argue Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric had no business asking Palin tough questions on policy. Unlike Sean Hannity who had the good manners to only ask questions Palin could use to bash Obama.
With John McCain and the Republicans attacking Obama’s lack of experience, it was hypocritical then for McCain to choose a running mate with even less experience — and not nearly the knowledge Obama has of world and national affairs. The McCain campaign did their best to keep Palin inaccessible to the press because they knew she was not ready to be vice president, let alone president.
Gibson and Couric did their best to find out just how much knowledge Palin has of foreign affairs, domestic policy and trade, among other topics and what we found out was shocking. Other than Roe v Wade, Palin couldn’t think of any other Supreme Court decisions with which she disagreed. Even more mind-boggling, her answers when asked about the seven hundred billion dollar bailout package and other economic issues became incoherent, so much so that Tina Fey, in her satiric SNL skit used it word-for-word, because even the best comedy writer could do it that good.
If asking the tough questions is treating Governor Palin horribly, then the press is guilty.
Then there’s the old Republican campaign chestnut they’ve been using for decades now — claiming, stupidly, the “mainstream media” is liberal. Get over it! The media reported the news, especially when Palin, McCain and their minions were telling us Obama was a Socialist and “palling around with terrorists.” The press even went so far as to feature McCain’s internal campaign poll numbers to try and bolster his support in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania, trying hard to make it appear McCain had a chance to win. The “liberal media” did a pretty good job of trying to carry McCain’s water.
Most patently offensive: saying Blacks and Hispanics made a purely racist decision to vote for Obama, that they didn’t identify with Obama’s philosophy and views, not even conceding that, at the very least, Blacks and Hispanics were voting against what they perceived to be more of the same (Bush). That’s a fairly racist presumption.
Not to mention, 90% of Blacks voted for John Kerry in 2004 (maybe they thought he was Black) and nearly 45% of Whites voted for Obama, 12% more than those who voted for Kerry in 2004. Got any answers as to why they voted for Obama? Maybe we are just trying to get in on the urban hip-hop culture!
Finally, as stated in my previous posts, President Bush was quite gracious to his successor — in stark contrast to the previous seven-plus years as the worst president in history. Not even his own party wanted anything to do with the president and vice president and even refused to let Bush and Cheney appear at their convention. In fact, none of the featured speakers ever mentioned Bush or Cheney; nor did Bush and Cheney do any campaigning for McCain-Palin — in fact, at the end, even McCain was campaigning against Bush!
But, Bush, so far, has been very gracious to Barack Obama. For that we can be grateful!
