This is interesting: according to the reports released by the Congressional Budget Office since 2000 and analyzed by economists for the New York Times, the economic agenda of President Obama accounts for less than 10% of the current and projected budget deficits. The other 90%-plus is the result of the current economic recession as well as the one in 2001, but more importantly, tax cut and spend policies of President Bush and his Republican colleagues in Congress.
Obama is responsible for less than 10% of the deficit. When George W. Bush took office in 2001 we had a surplus and the CBO projected we would have surpluses of $900 billion in the years 2009-2012. Now the CBO says we will have deficits of $1.2 trillion in those years. And Newt Gingrich said in his speech to his fellow Republicans the country would be better off if John McCain and Sarah Palin occupied the White House. McCain’s platform was to continue the Bush policies.
Could the country actually handle four more years of Bush? Even if his name is McCain? Sure, some eye candy would occupy the office of the vice president, but could we afford to have someone who was learning basic geography on the job as a candidate second in line to the Oval Office?
Palin got into a kerfuffle with David Letterman earlier this week when the talk show host made a rather tasteless joke about Palin’s 18 year old daughter Bristol being knocked up by Alex Rodriguez. He apologized, but the Palin’s have decided Letterman’s joke was about Willow Bristol, who is only 14. For most people watching Letterman, we knew he was referring to Bristol, who is already an unwed mother, but the Palin’s want to involve Letterman in statutory rape — at least verbally.
But this is where it really gets funny. A Palin spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, said the governor would not do the Letterman show because “it would be wise to keep Willow away from” Letterman, meaning Dave would be really stupid and destroy his life and career by trying to molest a 14 year old girl on his show.
The funny part is that when the governor was on the Today show she asked whether Stapleton’s comment was in bad taste. Palin replied, “Maybe he couldn’t be trusted because Willow has had enough of this type of comments and maybe Willow would want to react to him in a way that maybe would catch him off-guard. That’s one way to interpret such a comment.”
David Letterman has been doing late night talk shows for 30 years now and it’s not likely a guest would catch him off guard, let a lone a family member waiting off stage in a green room, if the family member is even at the show.
It’s understandable though. Palin would like to be the presidential nominee for the Republicans in 2012 so any publicity at this point is good publicity — even if it does make her look stupid.
Republican and conservative spokespeople have been talking stupid all week … well, we can generally find at least some of them talking stupid every week, but after the murder of a security guard at the holocaust museum in Washington, Rush Limbaugh suggested the extreme radical right wing nut job who committed the murder, James von Brunn, was actually a leftist! You’d think his fellow right wing talk show hosts would find that beyond the pale, but no, several echoed Limbaugh’s remarks throughout the day Thursday.
The man who, for the past 40-plus years, has railed against Jews, Blacks, Catholics, immigrants who aren’t European; who has ties to ultra-conservative political groups like the British White supremacist party, the British National Party, a group that has ties to the Ku Klux Klan, Rush Limbaugh and his ilk want to label James Von Brunn and a leftist?
Von Brunn hates George Bush and one of his targets was the Washington Bureau of FoxNews. Well that proves it! Except that if you read Von Brunn’s rants, he considered Bush too liberal and Fox to be another Jewish-owned media outlet and a part of the left wing media.
It’s hard to blame the right. They have so many problems of their own these days, they don’t need a right-wing murderer hanging around their necks, even though they spew the rhetoric that incites people like Von Brunn to murder. Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh in particular use hate language when talking about President Obama and more immediately, abortion doctor George Tiller.
Republicans are on the verge of having no say in government and getting tied to a right wing extremist would help facilitate even more losses in the 2010 and 2012 elections. So, they come out and denounce Von Brunn’s actions, but not his words because, in the end the Republicans still need the pool of voters who believe as Von Brunn believes — it’s part of their base.
What a tangent. From the national debt to Sarah and Dave to extreme right wing murderers, it’s better to stop here. I was just reading about Carrie Prejean being fired by the Miss USA pageant. She claims it’s because she refused to pose for Playboy. Really, we want to see her nekkid, so maybe she deserved to be fired!
