Today, America votes. Actually, America has been voting for weeks, and in record numbers. No one has gone so far as to predict a landslide, but I’d like to. I’d like to not only predict it, but also to see it. I want to see America overwhelmingly elect Barack Obama as their president, and for a number of reasons.
First, it would show the world that America is determined to shrug off its ugly history of racism and intolerance. Second, it would show the world that America is ready for change, and determined to make it. Third, Obama is a great orator, and I believe he will be a great statesman. He may, in fact, be one of the great presidents of our time.
It’s been said Obama has the makings of a great president, and I believe that’s true. He has shown integrity, good judgment, and common sense. He stays cool under pressure, and does not react. He is charismatic; that is clear by the way the crowds go wild when he speaks. He is a thinker; something that’s been lacking in the White House for the last eight years.
Some people see Obama as the great hope for black people and other minorities in America. Others see him as America’s hope to pull the country out of economic crisis.
But I see Barack Obama as the world’s hope. In a time when the world is so unstable, we need a cool head in the White House. In a time when religious and racial intolerance is running rampant and threatening world peace, we need a man like Obama who can bring people together. In a time of economic uncertainty around the world, we need a man with sound judgment at America’s helm.

Today, people from all around the world are watching the American election. Black people, white people, Christians and Muslims, men and women. People are watching, and hoping, and even praying that Obama wins.
Is Obama the messianic savior some people are saying he is? I’m not sure I’d go that far. But he is America’s best hope for the future. He is the world’s best hope. And in a time when we don’t have a lot of hope for the future, that’s saying something.
